Youth/Adults Attending Brethren Workcamp in Reynosa, Mexico

Four youth and two adults from our church will be attending a Church of the Brethren workcamp in Reynosa, Mexico, August 2-9, 2008.  They will be workig in a community orphanage in Reynosa.  Children's Haven International provides housing and a stable living envirtonement for thirty five children in Reynosa.  Our youth will live, eat and work at the home and privde extra love and attention for the children.  Service work will also involve light construction and maintenance of the facility, as well as outreach projects in the city of Reynosa.  Church of the Brethren organizers have requested each particiapant donate twin bed sheet sets.  There are 500 children in the area who would benefit from new bedding.  If you would like to donate a new wtin sheet set or money to purchase sheets, a box will be placed in the nathex for collection.  Due to airline baggage fees, it woul dbe helpful if some folks would consider donation money so the team can buy sheets once they arrive in Texas.

Upcoming Senior High Activities and Important Dates

Youth Helping with VBS Aug. 4-8: Senior High Youth will be helping with VBS each evening.  Plan now to make it a magical week for the kids by volunteering.

Sunday, Aug. 10: No Meeting this night.

Monday, Aug. 11: Tentative Kings Dominion Trip.  The cost will be $25 if you participated in the Annual Youth Auction this past April, and $40 if you did not.  If we do not have enough people to go on this trip will be start looking at dates in Septmeber.

Upcoming Junior High Activities and Important Dates:

Sunday, Aug. 17: (12:00-5:30): Youth/Parent Raft Float Trip.  Since we have a number of youth who are nervous about participating in ourdoor activities, we want to offer this trip in rafts, which will be guided and youth can take on of their parents with them.  We will do a lot of playing on the river for those who want to.  We only have frrom for three youth/parent pairs in each of two rafts, when we would need to go to kayaks or tubes.  Please sign up with Derek by Wednesday, Aug. 13 if you are able to go.

Wednesday, Aug. 20: (6:30-9:00pm): Final summer Junior High Yuth Meeting.  We are working on a pool party for this night with the location TBA.  Plan to bring a bathing suit, towel and be prepared for one more summer night of fun.

Wednesday, Sept. 3: (6:00-8:45): Junior High Youth Kick-off Meeting Night:  We will kick off the new school year with dinner and a fun night of activity, plans and expectations for the new year.  PLan to be there abd bring your other Junior High age (6th-8th grade) friends.
