     August 2008 Worship Themes

August 3—OLD BRETHREN SUNDAY (Luke 8:14-15)

On the 300th Anniversary of the Brethren Movement, we will come together for an "old Brethren" Sunday—a worship patterned after Brethren worship in the nineteenth century. Pastor Ron, Clarence Moyers, and Bill Eicher will lead us in worship.

AUGUST 10—LISTENING TO GOD (Luke 8:16-18)

"They were young...when they had to flee their home because of their faith. Can you imagine wrestling so earnestly with scriptural teaching, wanting so much to obey Jesus that you choose to act in ways that turn your whole world upside down?"
-- Annual Conference moderator James Beckwith speaking of the first Brethren, who left Europe for the new world

AUGUST 17—CARING FOR ONE ANOTHER (Matthew 11:16-19)

John came neither eating nor drinking, and they say, 'He has a demon'; 19 the Son of Man came eating and drinking, and they say, 'Look, a glutton and a drunkard, a friend of tax collectors and sinners!' Yet wisdom is vindicated by her deeds," (Mt. 11:18-19).

AUGUST 24—LET YOUR LIGHT SHINE (Matthew 5:14-16)

In the words of Hebrews, we must "provoke one another to love and good deeds" (Heb. 10:24). Jesus said, "let your light shine before others…" (Mt. 5:16).

AUGUST 31—SHOUT FOR JOY (Psalm 65)

God shouts for joy in the sunrise and the sunset. Celebrate the joy in your life!

SEPTEMBER 7—FAITHFUL IN OUR TIME (John 15:4-11)

Seeds for a Great Harvest celebrates our Brethren heritage all weekend at the Rockingham County Fairgrounds. Don’t miss the opening worship on Friday evening, September 5th at 7 pm, events during the day (Brethren Woods Golf Tournament and Saturday afternoon events at the fairground), and the Ken Medema concert and worship on Saturday evening.
