Project Nimule Update

After spending nearly three months in Nimule, Emily Young returned home in early April.  Emily was busy in Sudan preparing the way for more volunteers to head overseas beginning in May.  On March 30 a Sudan Travel fundraiser meal was held and raised over $2,000 for travel for more volunteers from the First Church Congregation.  Emily will be returning to Nimule with six other workers, including First Church member Jana Burtner beginning in May.

All Church Ice Cream Social--May 4

The Senior High youth group will host an "All Church Ice Cream Social" on Sunday, May 4 from 6:30-8:00pm in the multi-purpose area.  There will be ice cream, lots of toppings, and directed conversation amongst all ages around the tables.  Plan to come and be a part of the fellowship of our church family.

Softball Season Begins on Tuesday, May 6

The First Church softball team will look to defent it's Linville Edom Church League title beginning on Tuesday, May 6 at 8:30.  The softball team plays each of its games at Linville Edom Elementary School in Linville, VA.  For more softball team information check out the softball website

 Men's Fellowship Study Group is Open for more Participants

The men's fellowship study group that is meeting every other Monday evening from 6:30-7:30 has room for additional men to join if they are interested.  The group will be meeting on Monday May 12 & 26.  They are currently discussing the book "Chasing Daylight" by Erwin McManus, and copies of the book are provided.  If you are interested in joining the group, please speak to a current member, the meeting on Monday, May 12 will be at Norris Bunn's house.

Mother's Day Tea Party

The Fellowship Ministry Team is sponsoring a Mother's Tea Party on Saturday, May 10 at 11:00am.  There will be a spring Fashion Show, and mothers and daughters of all shapes and sizes and ages 2-92 are welcome to model their favorite spring fashions.  Bring your mothers, daughters, sisters, aunts, nieces, and friends.  Come share in a time of celebration of our mothers.

First Church Recognized by the Salvation Army

Harrisonburg First Church of the Brethren was recognized as one of three local congregations that provide weekly meals at the Salvation Army shelter in Harrisonburg.  Various groups from First Church provide meals on Tuesday evenings to the homeless people who currently reside at the shelter.
